Policy Dialogue: Challenges and Enablers of Institutional Transformation in Higher Education Institutions

This policy-focused round table brings together academic leaders and policy experts to examine the structural and cultural factors shaping institutional transformation in higher education. The session will address both the barriers and the enabling conditions that influence change processes in european HEIs. 

Roberto Zanino, member of the CESAER Board of Directors and Full Professor at Politecnico di Torino will moderate the session.

Roberto Zanino is Professor of nuclear engineering at Politecnico di Torino’s Department of Energy, where he leads the Nuclear Engineering Modeling group. He is Politecnico’s Rector's Senior Advisor for International University Networks and the European University Alliance Unite!, and PoliTO-Argentina project manager. He is member of the CESAER Board of Directors, of the Unite! Steering Committee and President of the EU-LAC University network Magalhaes.

Maria MeceneroPolicy Officer at the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD)

Maria Mecenero is a Policy Officer in the Directorate-General for Research & Innovation of the European Commission. As a member of the team working on research careers, her main responsibilities include improving the synergies between Research & Innovation and Higher Education within the European Research Area (ERA), supporting the R&I mission of universities and European Universities Alliances, and advancing with the European Competence Framework for Research Competences (ResearchComp).

Mattia Bellotti, Secretary-General at the EUTOPIA university alliance

Dr. Mattia Bellotti is the Secretary-General of EUTOPIA, an alliance of ten European universities and six global partners. With a diverse background in Higher Education, Research, Engineering, and European Affairs, he has contributed to shaping long-term, cross-border partnerships between higher education institutions. From pan-European education programmes at EIT Digital to EUTOPIA, Mattia has driven the development of innovative programmes and projects connecting academia, industry, and policy.

Jan Palmowski, Secretary-General of The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities 

Jan Palmowski has been Secretary-General of The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities since its creation in 2016. A contemporary historian, he started his career at the University of Oxford before moving to King’s College London where he taught European politics and EU integration. He was Head of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at King’s College London (2008-12), and Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Academic Vice-President at the University of Warwick from 2013 to 2018. He is Professor at the University of Warwick, and adjunct Professor at the University of Oslo.


Michał Banaszak, Vice-Rector for Digitization and Cooperation with the Economy at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań

Michał Banaszak is Professor of Physics, Faculty of Physics and NanoBioMedical Centre, AMU. He received his Ph.D. in Physics in 1991 under the supervision of Professor Mark Whitmore at Memorial University in St. John's, Canada, specializing in polymer physics.

Prof. Banaszak currently serves as Vice-Rector for Digitalization and Cooperation with the Economy at AMU. He is also a Professor at the Faculty of Physics and the NanoBioMedical Centre, where he leads the High Pressure Physics Division.
